Nick founded the Parallel Mind Ltd  in 2002 with the clear purpose of coaching top legal professionals to fulfil their true potential.


His clients include DLA Piper, Hogan Lovells, Latham & Watkins, Lex Mundi, Linklaters, and Ogier Legal.


Nick is a leadership coach for partners in global law firms.


He believes that a genuine desire to help a client or colleague as a fellow human is the key factor in gaining the necessary level of personal trust to win hearts and minds.


Nick’s multi-cultural coaching approach combines emotional intelligence with cutting edge neuroscience of how the brain works.


He led a major Cass Business School research project on leadership and innovation.


Nick enjoyed four semesters at Munich University helping international graduate students improve their multi-cultural awareness and communication skills.


He holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and training from the University of Wales and is an International Coaching Federation advanced level executive coach.


Nick is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Practitioner. He held a senior marketing position with Standard Chartered Bank Group.

Derek Benton

Derek's purpose in coaching springs from his innate curiosity in people, and a desire to assist individuals through positive motivation to take their aspirational thoughts into action.

Having enjoyed a 30 year career with businesses serving the legal service markets, both in the UK and overseas he is an experienced sales and marketing professional and former corporate executive, with deep operational expertise in managing people, strategic planning, and implementing business plans in a commercial environment.

His coaching style is to support individuals in building a pragmatic approach to their personal development and enrichment of their working life. Fundamental to his approach is to help clients "think about  their thinking" as a gateway to more effective self-management.

Derek trained under the Results Coaching System™, from the "NeuroLeadership Institute"  Taking in the  latest developments from neuroscience in the understanding of thinking, he applies this in practice by helping clients in self-directed change through positive encouragement.

Neil May

Neil’s focus is on making businesses stronger, management more effective and people more successful. 
After training in marketing and winning a number of industry and venture capital awards, Neil then moved to a global consultancy and trained in strategy and change management. In parallel he became associate lecturer in MBA strategy at one of the UK's largest business schools. He is a trained executive coach and his work on people development is used as the sole professional services case study in a book on leadership development for HR and training professionals published by Butterworth-Heinemann.
 Neil has worked in three of the leading global professional service firms. He has helped leadership teams on the development of their businesses, on significant mergers and post-merger integration; led the selection and appointment of professional advisers and suppliers; and as a fee earner had responsibility for major client accounts.  He therefore understands the challenging dynamics in which professional leaders operate.
He has coached Chairman, CEOs, Practice Area Heads, Deputy Head Teachers and Barristers.

Julie Flower

Leadership Coach

Julie is an experienced management consultant, coach and organisational development practitioner with an interest in developing adaptive leadership.  She has a varied public and private sector management background, including as a senior commissioner of health services.  Julie enjoys working with leaders and teams in complex, uncertain and changing systems to help them collaborate more effectively, innovate and adapt.  As an improvised comedy performer, she can also use creative techniques to energise development, leading to both improved performance and more joyful, dynamic teams.

As an eclectically-trained coach, Julie brings a range of techniques in order to best suit the needs of the individual or team.  She believes that developing more facilitative leaders is the route to more innovative and adaptive organisations. 

Julie studied History at Cambridge and also hold an MBA in Public Service Management. She holds the ILM Level 7 Executive Coaching and Leadership Mentoring Certificate and the Certificate in Systemic Team Coaching.   Julie is currently studying for the Henley Business School MSc in Coaching and Behaviour Change, which has a strong neuroscience component.
